I never thought I would kick off a Monday Mojo quoting a pop artist, but here we are. Billie Eilish has lyrics in her song “Not my Responsibility” that go like this:
“Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”
My wife, Lisa, brought this to me because it reminded her of something we say all of the time in keynotes and consulting conversations. What you think of me is none of my business because there is absolutely nothing I can do to control it. The only thing I CAN control is my response.
You can choose to react. Or you can create.
In choosing your response, you are also choosing your feelings. And if you capture this control, you can control your life.
